As Apple CEO Steve Jobs stated in his address to Stanford University Graduates, which the above video shows, ‘as you live each day as if it is your last, one day you will be right – we spend too much time at work to be doing something we’re not passionate about Stay Hungry- Stay Foolish’.
In this two-part post, you will find some tips on how to implement the following principles into your life (please remember it is a journey and it doesn’t happen overnight). The key to the journey is to consciously engage with it and practise, catch n’ correct (you’re only human) and keep on practising – it is your life and it is worth every step.
How to integrate these Principles into your daily professional-personal wellness practice:
1. Live optimism and Be Present - let go and live in the present moment. At the beginning of the day, identify a positive intention and put attention on it through the day. Think about it midday and assess the progress you’ve made or not and keep trying. At the end of the day, state what you’re grateful for. Focus on your breathing; especially if a gremlin(s) is playing a drama in your head; apply the four step technique to turn down the volume.
2. Discover your Vision – we are all whole, resourceful and creative! Gather some magazines, photos, words, phrases and whatever else inspires you and create a ‘vision board’ – identify who you are and what you want through images and whatever is meaningful to you
3. Grow through Self awareness – Work with a Position Ignition Career Guide and identify your values, passions, strengths, talents, skills, knowledge and experience. Gain confidence by identifying who you are, what you want and what you can do (strengths, talents, skills).
4. Identify your Goals – Focus on starting with the end in mind and identify your desired outcome. Your outcome will increase in clarity, as you progress through each of the above noted actions.
5. Just doing ‘itness’ – Be active! First and foremost, ‘be’ and in union with being is ‘doing’. You must creatively examine your options and target which option is ‘your number one option’. Focus on the steps by ‘doing’ what is necessary to reach your desired outcome. Small daily steps lead to a tsunami of results!
In the second part of this post, we’ll look at five more tips for implementing valuable principles into your professional and personal wellness. Being able to integrate these elements into your world will help with your sense of wellbeing, your work life balance and your overall ability to be in charge of your personal wellness.
